The area was first designated a protected area in 1896 by the German Governor of Tanganyika Hermann von Wissmann, and became a hunting reserve in 1905. Interesting places in the park include the Rufiji River, which flows into the Indian Ocean opposite Mafia Island and Habitats include grassland, typical Acacia savanna, wetlands and extensive Miombo woodlands. Although total wildlife populations are high.
Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Dar Es Salaam - Nyerere National Park
Meet with your guide at the place of your stays in Tanzania in the morning 07:30am, drive 5-hrs to Nyerere National Park, arrival in the afternoon at your lodge where you participate into boat safari along the mighty Rufiji River where you will spot plenty of Hippos, Crocodiles and bird life. Later you proceed to your lodge/camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: - Nyerere National Park
Enjoy a full day game viewing in the reserve. Participate in some classic – style game drives – exploring the bush in open 4x 4 vehicles. Waterbuck, southern reedbuck and brushback are common in the Nyerere. Rare sable antelopes, lion, and greater kudu are also frequent in this area. Meals and overnight stay at the Selous meal plan Full board (Dinner, Breakfast & Lunch).
Day 3: Nyerere - Mikumi National Park
Depart from Nyerere National Park towards Mikumi with game drives en route in the northern part of Nyerere National Park, highlight of the day includes rich variety of bird species, and other mammals including giraffes, zebras, lions, leopards, African wild dogs, Hippos, Hartebeest, Wildebeest and many more animals species. Then return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Mikumi - Dar Es Salaam
Early breakfast at the lodge or camp followed by morning game drives which takes you till lunch time, after lunch you are driven back to Dar Es Salaam it will take 5 hrs drive back to Dar es salaam where you will be dropped off at the place of your choice.
